IQ Engineering designed with constructability assistance from IQ Contracting a much needed repair plan for this transfer station working directly with Edgecombe County. The existing slab was significantly damaged from normal wear and tear and needed to be addressed immediately. The expense of a total replacement far exceeded the county’s budget for this project so a repair scenario was quickly settled on and then executed; only the existing entrance ramp and loading slab were demolished so that existing elevations could be maintained. Working in close cooperation with Argos Concrete, a topping mix design specifically providing the characteristics desired was placed and finished using a large amount of primary and secondary reinforcement, micro silica fume, a shrinkage reducing admixture, and a very low water cement ratio. The end product provided the client with a minimum 10,000 PSI compressive strength and no control joints for the owner to maintain.
